Winter Rabbit

Nearly Wordless Wednesday

If the fog comes in on little cat feet,

as Sandburg said,

I think the snow comes in silent as rabbit,

leaving tracks and traces for us to see later.

Winter rabbit is barely visible behind the

dead grasses,

against the backdrop of the scrub oak,

feeding in the blue and gray predawn.

His nose the only movement,
as he cautiously looks to my window, his ears and head are all that show above the drift.

Pictures taken on Los Pecos Ridge, Sedillo, NM, 1st in December 2007, 2nd & 3 rd on January 14, 2008, with a Sony Cybershot, Carl Zeiss Zoom lens.

  1. Cute! We have a rabbit who likes to visit our deck to eat any fallen birdseed every night. He comes so close the cats sit at the window all spunky! There is a sign on my sliding glass door, about 4 inches from the ground, written by my 4 year old: "Poopy (one of our cats), NO SNIFFING BUNNIES!"

Hysterical. Nice to see your visitor leaves as much behind as ours does! :)
